Try This Incredibly Easy DIY Face Mist With Essential Oils

The sun is going to come out any day now...any day now. And when it finally does, we’ll be there waiting with open arms. However, soaking in the sun can take a toll on your skin. Leaving your complexion dry and dehydrated rather than looking sunkissed. Luckily, you can have hydrated skin  and enjoy a summer of sunbathing with an easy-to-make, hydrating face mist.

To create this face-mist formula, we started with a clean ingredient that also happens to be our favorite hydrator: water. We then added glycerin — a natural humectant that draws moisture to the skin and prevents transepidermal water loss (TEWL). For this formula, you can replace glycerin with propanediol. A less sticky, corn-derived humectant. Next, we chose nourishing Rose Bergamot synergy blend as our active ingredient. With antioxidant-rich, beautifying oils of Rose, Bergamot and Patchouli, this blend was the obvious choice for a hydrating face mist.

Now you can have the best of both worlds: sunny days and beautiful, hydrated skin.

What You Need

60 g Distilled water

20 g 190-proof alcohol

2 g Glycerin or propanediol

20 drops Rose Bergamot synergy blend

Flower petals and herbs (optional)

Spray bottle

How To

Yield: Approximately 3.5 oz

Combine the essential oil and alcohol. Wait a few hours, then add water to the spray bottle, then glycerin. Shake thoroughly to combine as you add each additional ingredient. Flower petals and herbs can be added last — no shaking required.

It’s also recommended that you use a pH strip to identify the pH of the product. 4 to 5.5 is the ideal pH of a skincare product. You can add pH adjusters (such as citric acid for a formula that is too alkaline, or baking soda for a product that is too acidic). The smallest amount of these ingredients can drastically change the pH of your product, so a little goes a long way.

To use, simply mist your face with your eyes and mouth closed. This face mist can also be used on the body. Follow-up with a moisturizer.
