The French Girl's Guide To Beauty Using Essential Oils

In the famous words of Coco Chanel, "Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance." If you've ever noticed how effortlessly chic French girls are, you know that less is always more. Think tousled hair and dewy skin.

For many French women, essential oils are the secret to that Parisian polished look. Take a quick look at the ingredients in French beauty products and you'll find essential oils like Lavender and Carrot Seed listed. It was actually a Frenchman who coined the term, "aromatherapy."

To help you achieve that uncomplicated French glamour, we've defined some French beauty rules along with EO DIYs to get you started.

Rule #1: Skip the blowdry

Go for that lived-in look by letting your hair air dry naturally. Forget flat-irons and excess hairspray by texturizing your hair instead. Try our Sea Salt Spray DIY for effortless waves.

Sea Salt Spray DIY

In an 11-ounce spray bottle, combine 2 ½ tablespoons of Sea Salt, 1 teaspoon of Coconut, 1 teaspoon of Aloe, 1 cup of warm water, 6 drops of Tea Tree, 8 drops of Elemi, 10 drops of Geranium, 6 drops of Rosemary.

Rule #2: Skincare is everything

To the French, healthy skin is the base of any beauty routine. Parisian women are known to do face masks at least once a week and strictly avoid using products with irritating or harmful ingredients that can damage skin over time.

Pink Champagne Facemask

Mix 2 ounces French pink clay, 1 Tbsp Champagne, 1 Tbsp Pomegranate Seed, 2 drops Cognac and 1 drop Clary Sage in a bowl, apply and leave on for 10-15 minutes.

Rule #3: Makeup in moderation

Contouring and heavy concealers are mostly absent from the French makeup regime. They opt for bare skin and use makeup sparingly to enhance natural few features. Thick eyebrows and a subtle highlighter can lead to a more sophisticated look.

Highlighter DIY

Let natural light sculpt your best features and skip the contouring. Simply blend a soft shimmery eyeshadow and Sweet Almond oil in a small container and apply to your cheekbones.
